ST. LOUIS – Milwaukee Brewers pitcher J.C. Mejía has received a 162-game suspension for a second failed test for an illegal performance-enhancing substance.
Mejía, who appeared in nine games this year for the Brewers, tested positive for Stanozolol, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday.
He tested positive for the same substance last season and received an 80-game suspension.
The Brewers re-signed Mejía to a minor-league deal in the offseason. He pitched to a 5.56 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 11 ⅓ innings out of the bullpen.
He was on the Brewers’ 60-day injured list with a shoulder injury at the time of his suspension.
